Tom Clark, a pupil at King Edward V1 Grammar School, has been awarded a Princess Diana Memorial Award for triumph over adversity.
The 15-year-old, who is so bright he is already in Year 11, is battling cancer that has already led to his having a leg amputated.
He was awarded the honour for his dedication and continued hard work throughout his illness for the School's Cadets group who nominated him, and for raising £18,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Head teacher Dr Mike Walker said Tom has never complained about his illness and started the campaign to raise the £18,000 only a year ago.
Last week the brave lad was in school to receive the award and to launch the Thomas Clark Appeal at a special assembly.
Tom Clark Appeal T-shirts can be purchased for £7.50 plus £1 postage and packing from the school.
