A former police chief is adding another award to his collection.
After 15 years as a St John Ambulance volunteer, John Burrow, will become a Commander of the Order of St John at a special service in London today.
Mr Burrow, 67, was the Chief Constable of Essex Police before his retirement in 1998 an his service in the force earned him numerous awards.
He got an OBE from the Queen in 1987 and was back at the palace just six years later to be presented with a CBE.
During his career, he was also bestowed with the police long service award, having begun his career in 1958, and the good conduct medal in 1981.
Speaking of his latest accolade, Mr Burrow said: "The police are trained in first aid, so I have an awareness of the work St John Ambulance do in first aid.
"It is a great honour to receive this recognition and I think it is a culmination of the teamwork, it's not just me."
