Braintree and Witham retained firefighters will not be working during the Fire Brigades' Union strike - despite other stations pledging to stay open.
The nearby villages and towns of Coggeshall, Wethersfield, Halstead, Sible Hedingham, Dunmow and Tiptree will be working, but only offering coverage in Braintree and Witham when lives are in danger.
Members of the Retained Fire Union (RFU) are not striking, but the two main stations in the Braintree district are mainly manned by firefighters who are part of the striking Fire Brigades' Union (FBU).
It is also unlikely the two towns will get extensive Green Goddess coverage because the 18 available will be primarily used to cover the 18 full-time stations in the county, said an RFU spokesman.
An Army spokesman said the placement of Green Godesses could not be confirmed yet.
Retained firemen work part-time and can be members of the FBU, the RFU or no union.
Those in the RFU will not be striking, but too many are in the FBU to allow the Braintree and Witham stations to function.
A spokesman for the Essex RFU said: "As it stands Braintree and Witham will not be working because there are not sufficient retained firemen available."
