A single mother who struggles to look after her disabled teenage son was today overwhelmed after an Evening Echo reader offered to pay for a holiday for them.
The Evening Echo told last week how Pat Bilby, of Goldington Crescent, Billericay, has to carry Scott, 16, around as he cannot walk or talk.
She has been battling for three years to get funding for a stairlift and shower room for the mentally and physically disabled youngster.
After reading of Mrs Bilby's plight, Eddie and Val Rex, of Ozonia Avenue, Wickford, handed over £500 so the two can take a break.
Mrs Bilby said: "They phoned me and asked to come round and see Scott. They are lovely people.
"Scott has been abroad before and really loved it, so I will arrange something for next year."
Mr Rex said: "I raise money for handicapped children in Essex. "The money is raised by holding golf days at Warley Park."
