Controversial plans to expand Stansted Airport could be stopped in their tracks if a council's judicial review succeeds.
Essex County Council, Stop Stansted Expansion and Medway Council have all requested the High Court orders a stop to various options under consideration from the Government.
Essex County Council's judicial review has been cleared to go ahead at the High Court, in London, on November 13.
The Government's consultation options now being considered include extra runways at Stansted and Heathrow and a new airport in the Thames estuary.
Campaigners say the plans will ruin the environment and devastate the quality of life of millions of people.
The county council is unhappy that the consultation options rule out Gatwick as an expansion option, while Stop Stansted Expansion plan to use the new Human Rights Act to argue the Stansted option should not proceed.
