For the ladies of Channels Golf Club it was time for their Autumn Trophy Competition on Thursday. Chilly as the first players teed off, it eventually turned out to be perfect golfing weather although the previous weekend's rain had made the course seem longer.
This "Betterball" competition was won by Lyn Fazzani and Jo Hanniman who scored 43 points with Sheila Emslie and Karen Whale finishing one point behind to take second place.
On Sunday the ladies were out again playing in the Secretary's Cup. This stableford competition, where the aggregate score of each team of three is used, resulted in a win for Pam Pamphilon, Connie Bloy and Jacky Cato with a total of 105 points.
Jacky, a five handicapper, played particularly well, only dropping two shots to the course. The second placed team of Mylais Gibney, Joan Charlton and Linda Brownlie came in with 96 points well ahead of the rest of the field on what was a poor day, weather-wise.
The men's October Monthly Medal played on the Saturday had Division One being led in by Chris Harvey who won on countback from Ken Arnott. Chris returned a gross 76, handicap 9 and net 65 and Ken, a gross 74, handicap 7, net 65. Ken Arnott did win the Scratch prize for the day.
The Division Two winner was Bob Hutley with a gross 90, handicap 27, net 63. Steve Morley took second place with his 88,19.69 scoreline.
