A 65-year-old woman died after being hit by a pick-up-truck while holidaying with her husband in Thailand, an inquest heard.

Coroner's officer Ian Hunter told the Colchester inquest yesterday how Vivien Davies and husband Colin were both hit by the truck on March 5.

He said Dr Davies received minor injuries but Mrs Davies, of Beverley Road, Colchester, died from head injuries.

Reading from a statement made by Dr Davies, Mr Hunter said it was dusk as the couple made their way to a favourite restaurant.

They were hand-in-hand on their way to a restaurant, which they had visited on previous trips to the country. The statement said they approached a pick-up truck parked at the roadside and Dr Davies went to pass it on the right while his wife rounded the truck on the left.

Dr Davies statement read: "As I was in front, it lurched forward to its right and I was knocked to the ground.

"I realised my wife was lying face down in the road. She was unconscious and bleeding from the head."

Mr Hunter said the pick-up had driven off.

He said Mrs Davies died on the way to the hospital from cerebral contusions due to head injuries.

Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded a verdict of accidental death.
