Southend Hockey Club celebrated a clean sweep of victories as their sides pushed aside opponents in their latest Printwize League contests.

The first team totally dominated the entire match against East London but struggled to find a way past the opposing keeper.

Striker Neil Utton said: "At one point I thought the goal had cling film covering it."

Wave after wave of Southend attacks were parried before James Morgan, who has a history of scoring winning goals against this side, finally got enough stick on a thunderous Dave Robeson strike.

The intervention wrong-footed the keeper and deflected the ball past him to clinch a 1-0 win and three very important points.

The second team saw off local rivals Old Southendian 3-1 in a quiet derby affair. Two goals from Keith Arnold and one by Alan Pearson gave Southend their success.
