Former Evening Echo snooker champion Lee Farebrother made a winning start to his Benson and Hedges Championship challenge last night.
He pulled off a 5-3 win over Thailand's Kwan Poomjang in the second round and now meets England's Andrew Higginson in round three on Saturday afternoon.
Farebrother is based at Leigh's Executive Club and his team-mate there, Basildon's Stuart Bingham, starts his B and H challenge tomorrow morning with a clash against Michael Wild.
Immediately before travelling to Mansfield for the big event, both Bingham and Farebrother were in the Executive team which took on Romford in the Vic Harris Snooker League and won 7-5 away.
