Basildon's South Essex Gym Club had 21 representatives in the Essex County Championships -- with no less than 15 collecting medals.

The competition is broken up into four levels, but to make it more competitive there are also age group divisions in each level.
In level four, South Essex had gymnasts in two events. In the youngest, for eight and nine-year-olds, Isabel Olley and Kasey Notton were second and third respectively.
In the 10/12 age group Lauren Finlow was fourth, with Louise Alexander eighth and Eleanor Evans 13th.
In level three, Jennifer Haines took the 9/10 age group, with Ellenor Besford second. Laura Brealey won the 11/12 age group, while Chelsea Fountain was second and Emily Felstead fourth.
In level two for ages 10/11, Leah Hickton won from clubmates Michelle Yems and Tamzin James. Lottie Thompson was fourth. Kayleigh Peak won bronze in the 14-plus age group.
Katie Walker won the 9/12 age group with Kirstie Parker third. Laura Rose bloomed with second place in the 13/14 section.
Amanda Parker was the 15-plus champion, with Stacey Penfold third and Kelly Martin fourth.
