Taxi services in Basildon are to become second to none as the town's two biggest firms join forces.

Pitsea-based A&B Taxis will complete the buyout of Davita Radio Cars in the middle of November, bringing the number of vehicles in the A&B brand from 100 to 180.

The company's owners have admitted prices will increase - but promised a better service.

A&B partner Steve Foster said: "These are exciting times. A&B was the biggest licensed company in the town and this almost doubles its size. Service will be far, far better.

Fellow A&B partner Gary Brand said: "The prices are going to become uniform - and there is going to be an increase to the customer. We have not had an increase for a long time and neither has Davita. But we are still going to be the cheapest in the town."

The company has invested £250,000 in new technologies to improve things for the customers, like a call-back system, internet booking and installing ticket machines in the town centre and at the Festival Leisure Park.
