A nurse who is being forced to share a bedroom with her 14-year-old son and nine-year old daughter has criticised housing policies which leave middle income earners homeless.

Toni Reeves, 40, a community staff nurse, says she can barely make ends meet after forking out £87 a week for a one-bedroom flatlet in a homeless hostel in Southend.

She believes she would be better of not working.
