The owner of a house in Falcon Close, Leigh, scared off a potential burglar he caught trying to climb into a window of the property.
The occupant shouted at the burglar, who was a slightly-built male, about 5ft 6in, wearing a baseball cap.
In a separate incident, an 85-year old man frightened off a thief wearing a gardening glove.
The thief, who was slim, male, about 5ft 6in tall, with light trousers and dark jacket, put his hand through a partially open window at the elderly man's home, in Salisbury Avenue, Westcliff.
Both burglars ran off after they were discovered by the householders.
