Campaigners have lost their battle to halt music being played in Frinton's Lock and Barrel pub

Conditions preventing background music have been lifted by Tendring councillors but the plug has been pulled on plans to install televisions to show major sporting events.

Residents living near the pub in Connaught Avenue opposed both schemes for fear it would lead to increased noise and disturbance.

It was feared the televisions would lead to "rowdy football louts" being attracted to the venue.

Gail Evans, who lives in a flat opposite the site, said that people already had their sleep disrupted and this would only make matters worse.

"Our peace has already been interrupted with the advent of the pub," she told members of a planning committee last night.

The moves were also opposed by Frinton and Walton Town Council and the Frinton Residents' Association.

But Nichola Leatherbarrow, of brewery giants Shepherd Neame, which runs the site, assured councillors the level of music would be controlled and would be inaudible from outside
