A council has pledged to oppose further development of Stansted Airport.

Government proposals to build an extra three runways at Stansted have met with opposition from a wide range of groups and organisations.

At a meeting of Braintree Council's executive on Monday night, members said they felt the need for extra runways had not been proven and the current planning policies based on prediction were not appropriate.

Members voted to oppose any development of the airport beyond the current levels.

Neighbouring Uttlesford Council has given reserve planning permission for the airport's passenger capacity to increase from 15m a year to 25m.
