Police are warning residents to be wary of bogus callers after two suspicious people got inside a Braintree home.
The pair claimed to be from a water company and called at two addresses in Cressing Road, Braintree, shortly after 1pm yesterday
They were refused entry at the first home but allowed into the second. Fortunately, the owner followed them around the house and they did not take anything.
They left empty-handed and were then seen walking towards Coggeshall Road.
A police spokesman said: "This is yet another reminder to householders not to let any unexpected callers into the house without first satisfying themselves that they are genuine and if necessary checking with the authority they purport to come from."
The suspects were a man and a woman. The woman was described as white, wearing dark clothing with long hair and the man was described as stocky.
