Stars of the London Knights ice hockey team turned-up at the Stockbrook Manor Golf and Country Club, in Billericay, to teach youngsters a few tricks with sticks and raise money for charity.

A team spokesman said: "The whole team and coaching staff came to Stockbrook Manor to demonstrate the skill involved in ice hockey and to teach youngsters what is needed to succeed."

Youngsters had a go at roller hockey, tried their arm with a "slapshot" and met the players who play at the Docklands Arena. There was also a chance to win free tickets to a game, autographs and pictures taken with the guys.

The spokesman said: "It's a thrill a minute game, packed with high-speed skills and plenty of action."

The fun did not stop there. The fire brigade demonstrated how to deal with small house fires and Welephant, the fire service's mascot, arrived with an engine.

The day raised funds for the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund and the London Knights Youth Programme.
