A man feared missing off West Mersea has been found safe and well.
The Coastguard launched a helicopter and lifeboat search for an inexperienced yachtsman after he failed to make contact with his mother as arranged.
The 51-year-old man, whose mother lives in Colchester, was eventually spotted with his 21ft yacht in Pyefleet Creek heading towards Brightlingsea.
Coastguard spokesman said the man was safe and well but the incident showed the importance of carrying radio equipment or a phone on board.
