An elderly woman was today seething after being offered just £27 compensation for being left stranded on the M1 by a coach firm.

Ivy Carmichael, 78, from Goldhanger Cross, Basildon was stranded for almost two hours at a service station on a journey from Glasgow to London.

She told by National Express she would receive "appropriate compensation", and would be sent her lost baggage, which went on without her to London.

The incident happened on Monday, September 9 and still Mrs Carmichael has not had her bags returned.

Instead she received £27 - the cost to get her back to London.

National Express was not available for comment.
