Canvey decathlete Dean Macey has vowed to take it easy in his build-up to next year's World Championships in Paris.
The 24-year-old World bronze and silver medalist saw his 2002 season decimated when a hamstring injury forced him out of both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
He felt his injuries came about when he pushed his training too hard -- and he is determined not to make the same mistake again.
Macey admitted: "I'm going to train more sensibly and relax more -- I want to step off the track knowing I've enjoyed it and I'm not going to be physically sick."
The decathlete has already put in two months of winter conditioning training and is hoping the hamstring can be repaired by a specialist in Manchester.
