Plans to open a unit for problem pupils at a closed-down school have been well-received
Chapel Hill Primary School, in Chapel Hill, Braintree, was closed in June after a long battle by parents, staff, pupils and governors.
Building work is currently under way to allow Chapel Hill Nursery to move into the main school building.
Now the Local Education Authority's recently announced plans to use part of the school as a unit for the behaviour support service have met with approval.
Council staff joined parents, governors and representatives from Braintree Council to discuss the plans on Thursday.
Richard Tincknell, Braintree councillor for leisure and culture, said: "Ideally, we'd like to see the primary school reopened on that site as early as possible.
"But the maintenence of the nursery and the creation of a pupil referral site is preferable to the school being left empty."
The unit will be used to teach children who have difficulty attending school because of behavioural problems
