Plans for a three storey block of five flats in Ferry Road, Hullbridge, have been rejected by Rochford District Council.
Head of planning Shaun Scrutton said the street scene in the area was characterised by bungalows, chalets and two storey houses.
The proposed three storey block would be unduly dominant and incongrous in the area.
