A Brentwood commuter has called into question security at a Shenfield station car park after a thief broke into his vehicle and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage trying to steal it.
Keith Telling, from Covenbrook, claims that police have had problems with CCTV pictures of the incident and he believes this is due to problems with the cameras at the Hunter Avenue car park.
First Great Eastern, which runs the popular commuter car park, refused to discuss the reliability of the cameras, but insisted that alternative security measures were put in place if any problems emerged.
Mr Telling, 52, a Business Development Manager based in London, said serious damage was caused to his car during the incident.
He said: "They are claiming to offer a secure area and there are cameras installed at the car park, but it appears they do not work all the time."
A Great Eastern spokesman said: "We cannot comment about this incident as it is part of an on going investigation by British Transport Police.
"Whenever we have any problems with our CCTV system we will introduce other ways of dealing with security."
