A re-jig of the planned blueprint for the development of Chelmsford over the next decade - the borough plan - is now being made available for public consultation by the council.

The main changes since the last draft version concern housing, particularly the controversial scheme to concentrate much new housing in Boreham.

Local people have already signalled their opposition to the proposal for 1,900 new homes in their village, while plans for a similar number in South Woodham Ferrers have been dropped.

And, for the first time, reference to a football stadium is included in the 106 hectare north Boreham site.

This is described as accommodating a mixed-use development to provide the 1,900 homes, in addition to a new neighbourhood centre, railway station, and a range of employment and community uses.

The football stadium would have a capacity for 10,000 spectators and include provision for public transport access and car parking.

The revised draft is being published for consultation today and can be seen at the borough council offices in Duke Street, County Hall, in public libraries, or at the community information centre in South Woodham Ferrers.

It will also be available on the borough council's website at www.chelmsfordbc.gov.uk
