Southend's unbeaten start continued in the Printwize league, but they were helped by a no-show from Fords.
The first XI were awarded a default 3-0 win but skipper Rob Saunders was disappointed to miss the chance for revenge against a squad which beat them last season.
The seconds did see some action and had to work hard before beating Havering 4-0.
But after Steve Lockwood won a penalty for Andre Jenkins to convert within seconds of the second half the Seasiders took control.
Chris Crowhurst forced home a second after two good blocks from the keeper, then Keith Arnold and Micky Walsh completed the scoring.
Lora Sharples was the star for the ladies, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw with Harlow and extending her goal rush to four weeks.
