Southend is holding a top level meeting with senior Whitehall staff to help ease the town's homeless crisis.
A raft of measures before the council include:
Encouraging private landlords to accept homeless tenants
Boosting the rough sleepers grant to get youngsters off the street
Leasing private properties
Director of Social care John Nawrockyi is meeting with senior staff from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister at the end of this week to see what measures can be put in place quickly.
