A set of "utterly disgraceful" public toilets in Rochford are set to close for good.
District councillors want to shut down the loos in Old Ship Lane, so more funds can be ploughed into the refurbishment of others.
Heather Glynn (Ind, Hawkwell) said: "The way they are treated is appalling. It's money that could be spent bringing the other ones up to standard and I therefore propose the ones in Old Ship Lane should close."
The toilets, built in 1939, were refurbished in 1986 when facilities for the disabled were added.
They are just 80 yards away from the recently refurbished public toilets in Back Lane.
The committee will now consult parish and town councils about spending tens of thousands of pounds on refurbishment programmes on other loos.
