More police officers could be pounding the beat on Canvey if a campaigning county councillor gets his way at a key meeting.
Canvey's Ray Howard has set up a meeting with police representatives and fellow councillor Dennis Williams.
Chief Supt John Mauger, Insp Steve Rawlings, police authority chairman Robert Chambers and Michael Machin, representing the Canvey traders, have been invited to Monday's meeting.
Mr Howard is hoping to thrash out the problem of youth nuisance and vandalism.
He said: "We want to make sure we are all doing our upmost to make sure Canvey is policed properly. I know Insp Rawlings and the officers on the island do their upmost but they are stretched.
"I hope we will be able to convince the police that Canvey is a special case, we need more security and more officers on the island."
