Youngsters at a Westcliff primary school were today given a free composter and 12 low energy light bulbs, to raise awareness of energy issues.
This week is National Energy Efficiency Week and Southend Council is keen for children to get involved.
The composter and bulbs were handed over to Westborough Primary School, in Macdonald Avenue, ahead of an energy event at the Civic Centre, in Victoria Avenue, Southend, on November 3.
Ann Holland, Southend's executive councillor for environmental and public protection, said:"I would like to encourage all residents to participate in our weekly doorstep recycling scheme and, if they are not composting at home, to make use of our garden waste collection service."
