A woman and a child were found at a house in Colchester with suspected knife wounds
They were both taken to hospital for treatment after police were called to the home.
Officers have not yet been able to interview the woman because of her injuries.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to an address in Villa Road, Stanway, where they found a woman and child suffering from injuries believed to have been caused by a knife.
"The woman is currently in a stable condition at Colchester General Hospital and the child, a ten-year-old boy, is being treated for his injuries at Broomfield Hospital morning."
He added they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, which happened on Monday.
