The long running saga over the Leigh Christmas Lights could finally come to an end on Thursday when the fate of the annual event is decided.
The long term future of the light and switching-on ceremony, is set to be decided at a meeting of the town council's leisure committee.
Committee members will be asked to make a decision on whether to take over the running of the event in the future.
This year's Christmas lights were given a last-minute reprieve at the full town council last week when members agreed to take over running the event.
Leigh Traders Association has run the lights in the past but announced it was pulling out because of difficulties with new lamp posts in The Broadway.
Councillors will be asked to decide whether the council should offer to take full responsibility for either or both of the lights and the switch on celebrations for 2003.
