People turned out in force to give their views on how to stop speeding traffic on their road.
People living in Spring Road, St Osyth, met with parish councillors and Andrew Cook, an engineer from Essex County Council's highways department, to air their views at a public meeting last night
The villagers claim they fear for their lives because of the speed traffic travels past their homes.
County council officials produced a series of proposals designed to tackle the problem.
Jim Smith, who is leading the residents' campaign, said the village was like a race track.
Mr Smith said he thought a ride-on ride-off ramp system, called a speed table, was a good idea to calm the traffic.
But Mr Cook said the speed tables needed to be visible to drivers in advance from a distance of at least 70 metres.
He said investigations would be made to see if this was possible on the stretch of road.
