Teenagers in Castle Point could face instant fines if they are caught throwing fireworks in the street.
With November 5 just three weeks' away, the Government has launched a package of measures to cut firework injuries among young teenagers, which rose by 50 percent last year - the biggest increase for seven years.
Essex Police is one of four forces in the country which will pilot on-the-spot fines of £40 for over-18s caught throwing fireworks in the street.
Sgt Kevin Diable-White, of Rayleigh police said: "This pilot scheme is a useful tool, however, it can only be used against those who are over 18."
