A prospering amateur dramatic society could soon have solved its problems over finding a new home for scenery and rehearsals.
Rayleigh Operatic and Dramatic Society, which has been operating in the town for more than 50 years, has been in danger of folding because of problems in finding a new scenery store.
For more than 40 years, the society has been using an old building at the market car park to work on scenery for its productions which are held at the Mill Hall.
However, Rochford District Council now wants the society to get out of its long term home because of its poor condition, and has given it notice to quit.
After a long search for new premises, an application has now gone into the council to change the use of an existing former barn at Lubbards Lodge Farm in Hullbridge Road.
