Gary Bellamy has been appointed the new manager of Braintree Town.

The former Chelmsford City boss takes over the hot seat at Cressing Road following Ben Embery's sacking last night.

Braintree-based Bellamy, who used to play League football for Leyton Orient, has also managed Nationwide Conference side Dover Athletic.

Out - Ben Embery

Meanwhile, Embery has spoken of his disappointment at being axed.

The club's board contacted Embery by phone last night and told him his services were no longer needed.

He fumed: "I'm disappointed because I feel I have done a fantastic job. I was hoping to build on a good side after last season, but the finances meant we lost good players.

"We had wage cuts at the start of the season and this made the job difficult. But the board have to take responsibility for that situation.

"When I started they gave me the tools for the job. But they withdrew the tools and expected the same results."

Chairman George Rosling said: "The decision was made on facts alone we have played 14 games and only won one."
