MP Angela Smith was today starting the most important job of her political life, at the centre of the Ulster crisis.
Mrs Smith, MP for Basildon and East Thurrock, is in Belfast after being appointed to the Northern Ireland ministerial team set up to oversee direct rule.
Mrs Smith has already taken up her new job as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
