Andy Warren kicked two late penalties to rescue a draw for Billericay from this eventful clash.
The unusual tone of the game was set when the kick-off was held up for ten minutes due to tents on the pitch -- bringing a whole new meaning to being camped on the try-line.
When play finally got under way, Canvey stormed straight down the sloping pitch for an unconverted try from Karl Wakefield.
But two minutes later the players were off again -- this time due to a bad injury sustained by Billericay skipper Jason Hendy.
After around 20 minutes the players returned and Islanders skipper Jason Carter went over for a try converted by Brett Smith.
Smith then added a penalty before Billericay replied in kind through Warren for a 15-3 half-time Canvey lead.
Down the slope in the second period, Billericay turned up the pressure with an unconverted try from supersub Andy Collings and two penalties from Warren before Canvey scored again through Martin Powell.
But Warren rescued a point for Billericay which denied Canvey a first win.
Canvey coach Richard Smith said: "We were disappointed not to get the victory, but I was happy that the tries are starting to come."
