The war on drugs will be intensified in Brentwood with a cash boost to upgrade a silent weapon.
The Drugs Reference Group has allocated £20,000 to improve the CCTV system in the town.
The latest cash injection was revealed at a meeting of Brentwood's Environment and Technical Services Panel on Monday.
The money is being distributed from Home Office funding to help projects aimed at eliminating illegal drug use.
It will allow Brentwood Borough Council to control the system of spy cameras on the streets by computer.
Council chiefs are examining ways to further expand the CCTV system which is currently working to full capacity.
