A main road in the centre of Rayleigh could be given a £500,000 facelift.
Rochford district councillors are to consider a report from head of planning, Shaun Scrutton, which could see Websters Way drastically improved.
Mr Scrutton said the proposal followed a report by G L Hearn Planning which looked at a number of options for the area.
He said: "Websters Way was constructed to provide service access for properties to the rear of the High Street.
"However, while the road still fulfils this function, it is now an important part of the town centre road network and a key pedestrian thoroughfare."
Mr Scrutton said any scheme had the potential to be constructed in phases, but the two main parts of any scheme would be:
The creation of a paved and landscaped link from the High Street across Websters Way and through the car park to King George's playing field
Paving, structured tree planting and improved street lighting along both sides of Websters Way.
Any scheme would have to be in partnership with Essex County Council and Rayleigh Town Council.
