A disabled woman who was injured falling on a damaged pavement has called for action to improve the area.
Gloria Cameron, of Deford Road, Witham, hit her face and broke her glasses after tripping over uneven paving slabs outside the town's Spa Road shops
Mrs Cameron, 56, who suffers from diabetes and poor circulation and walks with a stick, had just left a nearby hairdresser's when the accident happened
She said: "I'm a bit shocked and a bit bruised and I've got a black eye where my glasses went into my face, which is all swollen."
Mrs Cameron called for Braintree Council to improve the pavement surfaces which she said was "shocking" and to compensate her for a new pair of glasses.
A Braintree Council spokesman said: "It's obviously very regrettable and distressing to hear of this incident and repair works will be carried out within weeks.
"At the same time we need to find ways to prevent heavy vehicles from damaging the pavements because that really seems to be the cause of it."
