Cinema is set to return to Braintree with the completion of the town's new 12-screen cinema.

The purpose-built multiplex next to Freeport Designer Village is due to open its doors to the public in less than a month on November 8 just in time for eager audiences to see the latest Harry Potter escapade, the Chamber of Secrets.

And head of the operation will be former Braintree College student, Rachel Leach.

She has been appointed as general manager of the new Cine-UK cinema in Millennium Way after joining the company in 1998.

Since then she has held a variety of positions at Cine-UK cinemas in Stevenage and Bishops Stortford before taking on her new responsibilities for the day to day running of the cinema, including recruitment, managing a team of 80 part and full time staff, local marketing and general management duties.

The new Cineworld Braintree development is the 28th in the national chain.

Miss Leach said: "I'm pleased to be returning to Braintree and an area I know extremely well.

"I am confident that this 12-screen cinema will offer something for all age groups and tastes it is an extremely exciting time to be opening.

The release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will be followed by guaranteed blockbusters, James Bond in Die Another Day and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
