Firefighters said it was amazing nobody was hurt after a car ploughed through a cottage garden wall in Rochford.
Fire crews raced to South Street after reports that someone was trapped in the Vauxhall last night at around 8pm.
But fortunately the driver had managed to get free, but the car was badly damaged as it smashed through a wall into the front garden.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "It was amazing that nobody was hurt."
