Hi-tech computer equipment worth £107,000 is heading for Castle Point Council.
The planning and environmental health departments are all set to benefit from an information technology overhaul which will propel the departments into the 21st century.
The council will get 33 state-of-the-art PCs, new software and a new server to keep the whole system running smoothly.
The upgrade comes as part of a government drive to reach 100 per cent electronic service delivery for those who want it by 2005.
Alan Longford, the council's director of health and housing, said: "It will mean people can have a lot better access to their local authority."
As part of the government scheme, £200,000 has been made available to the local authority.
As well as increasing efficiency between departments, the upgrade should allow the public to electronically interact with the council.
