A TV drama of the life of Boadicea will be made abroad - despite the Colchester MP's protests.

Bob Russell had argued that the bloody history of the queen of the Iceni tribe should be filmed near the town she famously razed, or at least in East Anglia.

But the filmmakers have decided to go to Romania to shoot the £3m production, which will star ER actress Alex Kingston and be called Boudicca.

Mr Russell said he was disappointed by the decision by Box TV, which has been commissioned to make the ITV drama.

He had written to the production company with his views but never got a reply, he said.

The MP added: "It is disappointing but the important thing now is to ensure that it is historically accurate."

He said he hoped that details, such as chariots, costumes and weaponry, will be shown correctly.

A spokesman for Box TV said: "It is going to be shot entirely on location in Romania. We'd like to start filming at the beginning of next month and ITV want to show it in spring next year."

According the the spokesman, no actors have yet been confirmed to appear in Boudicca, apart from Alex Kingston, who will play the title role.
