Wayne Brown is desperate for a chance to bury the memories of his horror show for Ipswich Town against Grimsby.

By his own admission, the centre-half - who conceded a blatant first-half penalty - had a 'nightmare' against the Mariners as the Blues crashed 3-0 on Tuesday.

But he is adamant he can repair the damage - if boss George Burley keeps faith with him for Saturday's visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

Brown said: "If I'm dropped I'll have to accept it but I'd love the opportunity to put right my wrongs. I set myself high standards and I know I had a very poor game on Tuesday.

"I was the main culprit in terms of mistakes but one bad game doesn't make me a bad player. I'm not sure whether the problem was caused by tiredness or a lack of concentration.

"But I fully understand that I've got to play much better if I want to keep my place in the side."

Brown refused to make excuses for either his own performance or that of the under-achieving Blues.

He did, however, admit that playing three away games in six days had taken its toll, especially as one involved travelling to Yugoslavia.

"I'd never make excuses but we've been on the road a lot recently. It's not ideal. I was disappointed with my own performance but, as individuals, we've got to look to do better across the pitch.

"We created a few chances but just can't find the net at the moment."
