Canvey Island boss Jeff King has gone for experience as he attempts to plug the gaps at the back which have led to his side conceding 19 goals in their opening ten games.
The latest signing in the hunt for defensive polish is ex-Colchester United central rearguard man Ross Johnson from Nationwide Conference Dagenham and Redbridge.
Individual errors at the back have been a real thorn in Gulls' side so far and, although things have generally improved recently with only a goal a game conceded in three of their last four matches, it's an area the Islanders are keen to further improve as they bid to recover from a poor start which has seen them win only three of their first ten games.
Unfortunately, King has a big injury list to worry about following Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Aldershot.
Jeff Minton and Spencer Knight -- who only just returned from a hamstring injury -- picked up knocks and Lee Protheroe and Ashley Harrison, neither of whom played at Shots, are also doubtful.
