A woman driver suspected of being involved in a hit-and -run accident in which two children were injured did stop at the scene, police said today.
A police spokeswoman said the motorist had stopped and tried to speak to the adult who was with the children at the time, but as she was so upset, the driver had driven away.
However, the spokeswoman said the motorist spoke to officers later.
The two-year-old cousins, a boy and a girl, were taken to Southend Hospital after the incident in Ilfracombe Avenue, Southend. Both escaped serious injury.
The spokesman added: "This was not a hit-and-run by any stretch of the imagination."
