Braintree went down to one of the softest goals to come away from Bedford with a 1-0 defeat last night.

Manager Ben Embery called the goal 'terrible' that put the Iron behind with five minutes to go before half-time.

From a Bedford corner, the ball was headed back in speculatively and right-back Brett Girling stood on the post thinking it was going to go wide, only for the ball to trickle inside the post.

Embery said: "It was a terrible goal to concede. It's a bad goal to get beaten by."

Ironically Girling could have put Braintree ahead before that.

He had the clearest chance of all when he was put through and seemingly just had to hit the target only to screw his shot past the post.
