News that Ryanair is bringing forward delivery of new aircraft has been welcomed by Stansted Airport.
The new Boeing 737 800s will enable the budget airline to withdraw its older and noisier aircraft more quickly.
Chief executive Michael O'Leary has announced that in 2006, the airline would have the youngest airline fleet in Europe based on the assumption that it can continue to grow at Stansted.
Ryanair is Stansted's largest scheduled airline, delivering half of the 14.5 million passengers served by the airport in the last 12 months and it accounts for two of every five aircraft movements at the airport.
The Ryanair announcement coincides with the Department of Transport consulting on a European directive to introduce measures to phase out Chapter 2 aircraft fitted with hush kits.
Stansted managing director Terry Morgan said Ryanair's early delivery of new aircraft and the European directive were good news for the local community.
