Furious residents in Leigh today hit out at plans for a phone mast within 500 metres of a school.
The mast is planned for 1043 London Road, near Recreation Avenue, in the middle a dense residential area, and close to Darlinghurst Primary School.
Earlier this year, the Stewart Report, undertaken by an independent body, said councils must take care when placing masts in residential areas or within 500 metres of schools.
People are worried after medical evidence suggested microwaves emitted by mobile phone masts may increase cancer risks.
Jackie Moss, 38, of the Leigh Mast Action Campaign Group, said: "There is a concern that people close to these masts are at a higher risk of cancer."
